Shoppers could spend as much as $105 billion in online purchases this season, up about 11 percent from last year, according to a forecast by the National Retail Federation. This year's Cyber Monday is expected to generate sales of $2.6 billion, up 15 percent from last year, according to a study by the Adobe software company.
All of those sales mean a huge jump in deliveries for the Postal Service, which has already delivered more than 4 billion packages this year and is expected to handle up to 470 million packages this holiday season, an increase of more than 12 percent over last year. In many large metro areas, there will be seven day delivery in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
