Det. Matt Morgan was honored with a 20-year service award at the Nov. 6 city council meeting. He was presented with the service award by the mayor.

"It really it is an honor to see you here and in our police station," said Mayor Di An Putnam. "We appreciate everything you do for us and the City of Winnemucca."

Putnam said she respected Morgan and had enjoyed seeing him grow into his own.

In his 20 years with the police department, Morgan has done a variety of work including background investigations, field training officer and K9 handling with a dual-purpose dog. He has been a detective three times in his career and has worked in SWAT and narcotics.

Morgan said it was a rewarding experience to serve the same community and agency for his entire career.

Sgt. Dave Garrison celebrated 15 years as a police officer with the City of Winnemucca and was presented with a service award at the city council meeting on Nov. 18.

Putnam said it was pleasure to work with Garrison, who was fast and sturdy and represented everything that embodies law enforcement. She said Garrison was much appreciated by the city and the city council members.

"I couldn't be prouder to give you this 15-year service award and I can only hope you will be here in 20 years and on in the future," said Putnam.

In a later interview, Garrison said the best thing about his job was the people he worked with. "Maybe that's corny to say," said Garrison, "but it's true."

In his 15 years, Garrison has worked in a variety of positions and alternated between investigations and patrol. He said the change helped keep the work interesting.

Garrison said he enjoyed being a part of the community, and he and wife and two children have made the town their home.

Putnam said it was important to retain experienced police officers because their knowledge was invaluable to new officers.
