Halloween costumes, decorations will also be for sale at the Auxiliary thrift shop
WINNEMUCCA - Members of the Humboldt Hospital Auxiliary will see a flurry of activity this week as they prepare the Poke & Peek Thrift Shop for the coming cold months.
The shop, located at 3200 Bengochea Circle in Sage Heights, will put away all spring and summer goods to make room for its entire inventory of fall and winter merchandise.
The shop will close on Wednesday, Sept. 19, to allow members ample time to complete the switchover.
The store will open once again to the public from noon to 4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, and from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22.
Humboldt Hospital Auxiliary President Joe McIntyre said the Poke will have everything people need to stay warm during the colder months, including great buys on jackets and coats.
Plus, all Halloween decorations will be available for sale, too, along with Halloween costumes in sizes from infant to adult.
The Poke & Peek is the sole source of income for the Humboldt Hospital Auxiliary, an all-volunteer organization distinguished by members' pink coats.
The "pink ladies and gentlemen" provide service in the various departments at Humboldt General Hospital as well as at the Poke & Peek where volunteers sort, price, display and sell clothing, toys, books and household items.
With its profits from the thrift shop, the Auxiliary is able to purchase equipment for Humboldt General Hospital. Plus, the Poke & Peek donates clothing and other goods during emergencies, such as fires and auto wrecks, as well as aids the Winnemucca Ministerial Association by providing clothing and household items to the needy and clothing to the residents of Harmony Manor and newborns at Humboldt General Hospital.
The Poke & Peek Thrift Shop's regular hours are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays and from noon to 4 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Donations are gladly accepted during the store's hours of operation; receipts are provided upon request. A donation drop box is also located to the west of the store entrance for after-hours donations.
