Plenty of volunteer opportunities at Jacob's Well Youth Center

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - Jacob's Well Youth Center offers an array of volunteer opportunities throughout the year.

The biggest need is for volunteers to supervise youth Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Volunteers are essential in keeping the doors open for the youth of Battle Mountain.

Training is available and it is highly recommend that you shadow a current volunteer to ensure Jacob's Well is a fit for you. Applicants may fill out a volunteer interest form online at www.jwyc.org or pick up a hard copy during the hours mentioned above. For additional information visit the website and click the 'volunteer' tab.

The board of directors understands that working with youth may not be a fit for everyone. If you are interested in volunteering in a different capacity - we welcome your help.

People that have the time and interests in other areas such as; administrative, cleaning/organizing, counseling, handy(wo)man help, fundraising or facilitating/teaching special interests are encouraged to fill out an interest form as well.

A volunteer is currently needed to complete a special sewing project. If you or someone you know would be interested in a sewing project, we could use their talents to help make curtains.

Jacob's Well is in a position to supply the materials, if the volunteer can provide the time, talent and know-how. Please contact Jessica Arky via email, Jessica@jwyc.org or call (775) 635-8800.

Become an ambassador for Jacob's Well if nothing else. Jacob's Well is doing great things in the Battle Mountain community. The average visitation in the past two months has increased to 23 youth per day, new young people are visiting and attendance is consistent.

Promote Jacob's Well, share our mission, vision and goals, encourage people in your social networks to volunteer, offer monetary support, or donate items from the needs wish list posted online. If you have questions about Jacob's Well Youth Center please visit www.jwyc.org or contact Jessica Arky.

Jacob's Well would like to extend a huge heartfelt thank you to Jody Hierholver with State Fire DC Specialties for ensuring that the fire extinguishers at the youth center are up to code.

He swapped the extinguishers for the year and replaced a wall mount. Jacob's Well appreciates Jody's time and services. State Fire DC Specialties helped the youth center save money to put toward youth programming and special events by providing services at no cost.

Jacob's Well Youth Center is located on Broad Street, just across the street from Maverik. Sign up for JWYC's newsletter online at www.jwyc.org, next issue due out in November.
