The giant check pictured represents the total amount pledged to the Pleasant Senior Center this year, $83,496.
The Pleasant Senior Center applied to become a partner with Newmont's Legacy Fund last year. When you are a partner, the Legacy Fund puts out a brochure-type document to all its employees, who can then choose to donate a portion of their paychecks to the charity or non-profit organization of their choice. Newmont will match the donations made by their employees.
"It all starts with the employees," said Pleasant Senior Center Director Patricia Tindall. "We really appreciate the employees who choose to support the senior center and our programs."
The first quarter funding will be used to match another foundation grant to purchase a brand new Meals on Wheels vehicle. The Pleasant Senior Center now delivers meals to 70 homebound individuals daily.
The new Meals on Wheels truck will replace a hand-me-down 2001 vehicle that was donated from the Elko Senior Center last year. These special vehicles are expensive, but necessary to ensure delivery of a hot meal every day.
Once again, the Newmont Mining Company Legacy Fund has assisted with the cash needed, at just the right moment.
