WINNEMUCCA - Plans for the fourth annual Winnemucca Choir Fest are under way and the Winnemucca Civic Chorus would like you to join in the fun. Choirs, school choruses, glee clubs, small groups and soloists are invited to sign up. "I would like to see more involvement from all areas of the community (and outside the community as well) - children through adults, large groups through individuals, vocal and instrumental, church groups, schools, neighbors and friends, amateur through professional. It would be great to also get some holiday music from other cultures. Music is a universal language to be enjoyed by all ages, backgrounds, and cultures," said Joan Munk, the choir's director. "We would like to see communities come together and encourage performers from other areas join in the festivities. It would be nice to see this thing grow to phenomenal proportions," said another chorus representative. The Winnemucca Civic Chorus is also looking for an accompanist. If you play piano, they would love to have you share your talents with them. If the choir fest sounds like fun and something you would like to be involved in, and you don't have a group or are not comfortable performing alone, the Winnemucca Civic Chorus would love to have you join them for that as well. Practices are once a week on Thursday evenings from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the French Ford band portable. Anyone is welcome and invited to join. They are a casual group who just want to sing, have fun and perform. The performance times will be Friday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Dec., 8 at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church on 5th and Garrison Streets in Winnemucca. If you or your group are interested in performing on one or both of these dates, send an email to winnemuccacivicchorus@gmail.com with the name of the group or person, a contact name and phone number, the number of people in the group, a list of two or three songs that will be performed and the date or dates you wish to participate by Dec. 1, 2012. You can also contact Leann Barta at 775-623-0767 with the information. After the final group has performed on each of the dates, there will be a sing-along where everyone will be invited to join voices and fill the air with wonderful music. Past sing-along numbers have included selections from Handel's Messiah and Christmas carols. Come see what this year's event has in store.[[In-content Ad]]
