Did you know that over 45 years ago, several ladies decided to join in a sidewalk sale and raise some money for the Humboldt County hospital. The items sold were donated, and they sold enough to raise $535! That money was given to the hospital to buy two chairs and a wheel chair, thus the Hospital Auxiliary was born. We are now about 100 strong. You know us as "Pink Ladies" because of the color of the smocks we wear. The few brave men who have joined us don't wear the smocks, but if you look closely, you may see pink aprons or pink ball caps.
Donations from this generous community have grown at an exceptional rate, causing our income to grow accordingly. Counting the original $535, we have earned over $2 million by selling unwanted items. This money has been donated to the hospital, where it is used to buy medical equipment of all kinds, in order to better serve our community's health needs.
Life-saving equipment has been given to our ambulance service. Recently Pink Ladies and Gentlemen gave $63,600 to purchase a portable X-ray machine for the ambulance corps. Defibrillators have been put in ambulances, police cars, schools and wherever else they are needed in this county. Seven years ago, we were able to provide over $100,000 toward a new ambulance. These donations help our skilled EMTs save lives in many traumatic situations. As our first responders, the ambulance corps needs the best equipment that money can buy; and we are proud to assist them with any way we can.
Certainly the help starts with your donations, and we, the Pink Ladies and Gentlemen, say thank you for your donations and support. Your generosity allows us to turn unwanted items into cash for the benefit of everyone in the community.
So, say "hi" to a gal or guy in pink at the hospital, Harmony Manor or Poke & Peek. We invite you to visit Poke & Peek, get to know how we work. We'd love to see you there!
Next time I'll start telling you about our many other projects. We may surprise you if you haven't already heard![[In-content Ad]]
