Pig wrestling headlines at the Tri-County Fair

Pig wrestlers: it's time for get-down-and-dirty fun!

The Tri-County Fair & Stampede is excited to announce the return of the hugely successful "Pig Wrestling Contest."

The popular event will take place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 29, as part of this year's Labor Day weekend festivities.

Michelle Hammond, Winnemucca Convention and Visitors Authority Marketing and Sales Coordinator, said the purpose of the event is to provide a way for the Fair and its attendees to give back to our local community.

"All proceeds from the event will be donated to local non-profit organizations chosen by the first and second place teams in each category," said Hammond.

She said the event also will provide a way for participants to have some good, clean (or not so clean) fun as well. "This is always a fun one to see," said Hammond.

Participants compete for the fastest time as each team races against the clock to put a pig in a barrel. If that isn't enough, the participants will be running through the mud to catch the pig! There are four people to a team and four categories: Pee Wee (0-9 years old), Junior (10-14 years old), Women and Men.

In order to form a team, Hammond said, "Find four mud-lovin' and pig-huggin' friends, then come up with an awesome team name, turn in your team registration, get matching t-shirts or costumes and

show up at the event prepared for a fun time."
