WINNEMUCCA - As the Lowry High School boys basketball team collected its first state championship in 10 years and 11th overall with a 52-48 win over Elko, Buckaroo head coach Chad Peters was named the 3A Coach of the Year.
Lowry, who finished 22-6 on the season, had just one player named to the all-state squad as Jesse Studebaker was selected for the first team. Studebaker averaged 13.7 points and 7.0 rebounds a game this year for the Buckaroos, leading the team in both categories.
Elko freshman Nathan Klekas was named the Most Valuable Player.
Joining Studebaker on the first team was Cade Knuston (Fernley), Nate Hafen and Kaleb Bailey (Boulder City), Eric Garcia (Sparks) and Alan Honeyestewa (Elko).
The second team featured Virgin Valley's Humberto Urias and Dee Bowler, Dayton's Dylan Taylor, Truckee's Trent McMullen, Spring Creek's Tavin Archuleta and South Tahoe's Jacob Stowell.
