LOVELOCK - The annual 4-H awards and recognition program and potluck dinner were held Nov. 14 at the Pershing County Community Center. Anna Vidales Gallagher and Mikayla Renfroe served as Mistresses of Ceremony. The program recognizes the achievements of the youth and shows appreciation to the leaders and all the people in the community who made the 4-H program the success that it is.
Participants played an introductory game of finding someone who had various roles in the 4-H program, which was enjoyed by all. The theme was "4-H: Share the Love." The Burrows family, the Kaptain family, Summer and Sheila Rogers made table centerpieces and decorated.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Megan Renfroe. The 4-H Pledge was led by Daralyn Moura. Share the 4-H Love: Daralyn Moura read that "in 1928, Maya Angelou wrote: I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel. So let's share the love we feel in 4-H."
The Drama Club sang: "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas," lead by their junior leaders and Leslie Milligan, 4-H drama leader.
Certificates of appreciation were presented to the following Friends of 4-H by Cole Crim, representing Joe Crim Jr., Pershing County 4-H Leaders Council president, assisted by Cassidy Burke and Lizzie Kaptain: Nevada State Bank, for member's year pins; Steve MacDougall for help with the BBQ and trailer; Brandon MacDougall for announcing the P.C. livestock show; Bill Laird use of his trailer; senior center for allowing 4-H to display static exhibits; Jim's Tire for use of the ad in the LRM newspaper; Sheila Rogers, a parent who always helps in many 4-H activities; Amanda Burrows, Jennifer Montes and Lyudmila Zazhitskiy for help with the Drama Club.
4-H volunteer leaders were introduced and presented certificates by Steve Foster, UNCE Pershing County Extension educator, assisted by Callie Carpenter, Kaelyn Castro-Montes, Cole Crim, Abby Captain and Leeann McNeff. Leaders are the foundation of the 4-H program. They teach 4-H members responsibility, honesty, integrity and self-confidence while learning through educational or recreational activities, career opportunities, life skills and leisure time alternatives.

Resource volunteers provide many services to the 4-H program. Recognition was given to the 4-H Leaders Council: President Joe Crim, Jr., Vice President Anthony Moura, Secretary Rene Childs and Treasurer Darlene Moura, and the 4-H Building Board members: Tom Moura, Colby Burke, Rene Childs, Joe Crim, Jr., Earl Malay, Ken Story and Marianne Papa.
The Alumni Award recipient is Amanda Burrows, who was involved in 4-H Livestock sheep and beef in Monitor Valley near Austin. Now, as a parent, she helps with livestock activities, the drama club and the craft activities.
4-H member year pins were donated by Nevada State Bank. Melissa Hicks and Tina Gallagher of Nevada State Bank presented, assisted by Maddy Evenson, Erica Holland, Ben Plimpton and Scott Plimpton. Pins are awarded to members who have completed project record reports.

County Pins: Record keeping is an important part of 4-H work. Record books are the final step in finishing a project. No 4-H member can receive a county medal award without completing a 4-H record book. Anthony Moura, Swine Leader, assisted by Charity Kaptain and Summer Rogers presented swine and drama pins to Daralyn Moura; food and craft pins to Summer Rogers. Completing his Teen Leadership project, Cole Crim was recognized as a Teen Counselor at 4-H camp.
Best Record Books: 4-H shirts were presented to Junior Daralyn Moura and Senior Summer Rogers by Owen Bake for the Best Record Books. Both Daralyn and Summer earned their White Star pin, completing 10 items as set form in the Achievement Report Form.
Danforth Award: Marianne Papa, 4-H community based instructor, assisted by Kaelyn Montes presented Summer Rogers the "I Dare You" book with encouragement to be the best you can be.
