Brilliant sun angled into Lovelock's 4-H building last Sunday for the 69th annual Pershing County 4-H & FFA Livestock Show & Sale. A herd of youngsters adroitly showed goats, pigs, a sheep and a steer throughout the morning, while, in the early afternoon, the venerable Earl Malay called an auction of the animals. To top off the event, a seemingly endless array of desserts went to auction as well.

Corey Carpenter of Red Bluff, Calif., adjudicated the show, filling that role in Lovelock for the first time.

Providing various kinds of assistance throughout the day were Kendra Bohan, Lauri Cerini-Jones, Jennifer & Jessica Chandler, Rene Childs, Brandon MacDougall, Marianne Papa and Karen Stephens. The 4-H kitchen did a swift business, leaving grill master Ken Story to exclaim, "These folks are carnivores!"
