LOVELOCK - The annual 4-H Awards and Recognition program and potluck dinner was held Nov. 10 at the Pershing County Community Center. Maggie Gallagher and Kalynne Mitchell served as Mistresses of Ceremony. The program recognizes the achievements of the youth and shows appreciation to the leaders and all the people in the community who made the 4-H program the success that it is.
Participants played an introductory game of finding someone who had various roles in the 4-H program, which was enjoyed by all.
The theme was "4-H Forever Green." Abby Kaptain, Summer and Sheila Rogers decorated. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mikayla Renfroe. The 4-H Pledge was led by McKenzie Burke. Kati Rae Cerini read "It is Not Easy Being Green."
Certificates of Appreciation were presented to the following Friends of 4-H by Joe Crim, Jr., Pershing County 4-H Leaders Council President, assisted by Megan Renfroe and Abby Kaptain: Nevada State Bank, for member's year pins; Bob Depaoli for helping with the meat for the BBQ; Steve MacDougall for help with the BBQ and trailer; Earl Allen for help with the goats; Peredes Family for help with the goats; Brandon MacDougall for announcing the P.C. Livestock Show; Bill Laird use of his trailer; Senior Citizens Center for allowing 4-H to display static exhibits; Glenda Seibert for helping clubs at the Community Center; Jim's Tire for use of the ad in the LRM newspaper and Sheila Rogers, a parent who always helps in many 4-H activities.
4-H Volunteer Leaders were introduced and presented certificates by Steve Foster, UNCE Pershing County Extension Educator, assisted by Lane Condie and Leeann McNeff. Leaders are the foundation of the 4-H program. They teach 4-H members responsibility, honesty, integrity and self-confidence while learning through educational or recreational activities, career opportunities, life skills and leisure time alternatives.

EIGHTH YEAR: Lee Ann Gallagher - Camp, Ken Story - Ball Club.
NINTH YEAR: Rita Malay - Floats.
ELEVENTH YEAR: Henry Godecke - Martial Arts, Earl Malay - Sheep & Swine.
THIRTEENTH YEAR: Anthony Moura - Livestock Judging.
TWENTY-FIRST YEAR: Malinda Frazier - Dogs & Scrapbook.
TWENTY-FIFTH YEAR: Ellen Knight - Breads/Canning.
FORTY-SECOND YEAR: Tom Moura - Beef.
Resource Volunteers provide many services to the 4-H program. The following were recognized: Neil Gallagher (third year), Ed Bake (sixth year), Jodie Chico (seventh year), Denice Cerini (ninth year), Bennie Hodges (ninth year), Steve MacDougall (12th year), Jim Weeldreyer (14th year), Barbara Tobin (16th year), Rene Childs (17th year), Kearney Davis (21st year), Joe Crim, Jr., (23rd year), Pat Irwin (27th year) and Darlene Moura (27th year).
Recognition was given to the 4-H Leaders' Council: President Joe Crim, Jr., Vice President Anthony Moura, Secretary Rene Childs and Treasurer Darlene Moura, and the 4-H Building Board members: Tom Moura, Colby Burke, Rene Childs, Joe Crim, Jr., Earl Malay, Barbara Tobin, new member Ken Story and Marianne Papa.
The Alumni Award recipient is Brandon MacDougall, who was involved in 4-H Livestock in Pershing County and was a teen counselor at the 4-H Camp. He has returned to Lovelock after completing his degree at UNR and was the announcer at the Pershing County 4-H Livestock Show in April. Colby Burke, Goat Leader, assisted by Charity Kaptain, presented the pin.
The Outstanding 4-H Leader is Leslie Millican, third year Drama Club Leader. For the past several years Millican has produced the 4-H Christmas play, which includes many younger 4-H members. This year's play was held on Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Community Center.
4-H Member Year Pins were donated by Nevada State Bank. Melissa Hicks and Tina Gallagher of Nevada State Bank presented; assisted by Abby Bake, Jake Cerini, Cole Crim, Ben Plimpton and Scott Plimpton. Pins are awarded to members who have completed project record reports.

Record keeping is an important part of 4-H work. Record books are the final step in finishing a project. No 4-H member can receive a county medal award without completing a 4-H Record Book. Ellen Knight, Food Leader, assisted by Anna Gallagher, presented a 4-H shirt to Kati Rae Cerini (girl) and Jake Cerini (boy) for the Best Record Book. Kati also received a goat pin and drama pin while Jake received a beef pin.
Kalynne Mitchell received the Danforth Award. Marianne Papa, 4-H Community Instructor assisted by Summer Rogers, presented her the "I Dare You" book.
Thanks to all who came and showed support for the 4-H youth.
