LOVELOCK - Pershing County High School is in the middle of Winter Spirit Week. This year's theme is "Protect this House."
A dance held at Sturgeons Center Club started the week off last Saturday. Students enjoyed a variety of themed dress-up days and activities.
The climax of the week is the crowning of the Winter Spirit King and Queen, which will take place on Friday at halftime of the boys varsity basketball game.
This year's king and queen candidates are freshmen Briana Garcia and Riley Kendall, sophomores Monica Hilleshiem and Chris Franco, juniors Gabby Switzer and Damien Cowger and seniors Mayra Madrigal and Matthew Watson.
Students will vote for their favorite couple at Friday's games against Fernley. The Winter Spirit King and Queen will be chosen by a combination of votes and the amount of money each couple collects during the games.
The candidates will only be collecting on Friday night. The money goes toward class-sponsored events, such as the junior prom and homecoming activities, PCHS teacher Shauna Bake said.
Students will also have the opportunity to collect more spirit points by attending the games dressed in the school colors of red and black and by wearing the spirit headbands that were made on Thursday, Bake said.
