Paula Tomera takes over convention and tourism

Longtime Battle Mountain resident Paula Tomera, the former executive director of the Battle Mountain Chamber of Commerce, has taken over as executive director for the Lander County Convention and Tourism Authority.

She said she was pleased to have her new position but was not prepared for a full interview. She said she was short-handed because her assistant had just left.

Rich Ripley, the chair of the Convention and Tourism Board, said he preferred not to comment at this time when asked how he felt about Tomera taking over.

Shar Peterson, chair of the Battle Mountain Chamber of Commerce Board, said she was sorry to see Tomera go.

"Paula has done an excellent job over her two years as the executive director (of the chamber) with bringing new programs and events on board," Peterson said. "The board believes she has helped position the chamber to continue to grow and be a strong catalyst for the business community. We hate to see her move on, however feel she will bring value to the position she will be filling. As well, her new role allows for a close working relationship with the chamber."

The executive director position is a full-time job that consists of managing the Battle Mountain Civic Center, public budget planning and management, grant writing, audit and state reporting and organizing events to increase area tourism.

Tomera moved to Battle Mountain in 1991 coming from Honolulu, where she had lived three years. She was born in Firth, Idaho, and grew up in Firth before moving to Idaho Falls.

Sady Tingey began March 3 as the new executive director for the chamber of commerce.

"We're excited to have her in place and she is starting to get acquainted with the position," Peterson said. "She is a really good fit for the role."[[In-content Ad]]
