Long-time Battle Mountain resident Patricia "Pat" Piper McKinney died Tuesday, April 9, 2013, in Reno after complications from surgery.
Pat was born Sept. 28, 1936, in Marshalltown, Iowa. She graduated in 1954 from Punahou School, a prep school in Honolulu, Hawaii, where she lived with her family. After returning to the mainland she met and married her husband, Wayne McKinney, in Sterling, Colo.
Patricia worked at Lander Building Supply, where she developed the film for the whole town of BM for many years before she retired in 2005. She managed the Battle Mountain Mobile Home Park for over 20 years (formally known as the TeePee Trailer Court) until the time of her death. She was a faithful member of the Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Battle Mountain for many years and counted many of her closest friends among the congregation.
Pat will be remembered for her handmade crafts; her skills included quilting, wood-working, sewing, crocheting and doll house making. She will also be remembered for her loving honesty. But what she will be remembered for most is the love that she had for her grandchildren and her great grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Michael S. McKinney, her daughter Mary Elizabeth Melville, brother Richard Piper, and numerous grandchildren as well as great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Tom and Peter Piper; son Patrick W. McKinney; daughter Barbra J. Desedare; and grandson Samuel A. Scovil.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on April 24, 2013, at the Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Battle Mountain.[[In-content Ad]]
