WINNEMUCCA - The Tri-County Fair & Stampede has seen lots of great changes over the years. But one of the biggest-and most important-changes has come in the way traffic flows to and from the event.
"We will once again close the street in front of the 4-H offices," said Agricultural District No. 3 Director Kim Petersen, noting that concern for pedestrian safety, especially at night, has mandated that change. Additionally, the parking lot in front of the fairgrounds offices will be closed, and those who need to access the 4-H offices also will be redirected.
Alternatively, fairgoers will be encouraged to access the fair and the event center via Fairgrounds Way, the inlet across the street from the Bureau of Land Management and adjacent to A-1 Auto Repairing & Towing.
Fairgoers and Clay Walker concert attendees should not use the entrance by the Maverick Country Store on Saturday as parking will be very limited in that area.
Ample parking will be available in the event center parking lot and in the lots south of the events complex, adjacent to the carnival setup. Petersen said increased parking for the handicapped also will be available in front of the event center. The building will also include a drop-off area.
Petersen said signage will help direct fairgoers. A map of the redesigned traffic flow will be well-publicized to help alleviate concerns and congestion.
"Overall we think it will provide a much nicer, safer environment for everyone."
