PARADISE VALLEY - Once again the Paradise Valley Firemen kicked off another successful Rodeo held Sept. 17 - 18 at the Bell Ranch Arena in Paradise Valley. Woodie and Lilla Bell have graciously held the PVF Rodeo for the firemen annually for over 20 years. This in turn has enabled the firemen to uphold the rodeo tradition in the Paradise Valley and has become a much anticipated event for old and young alike.
Starting off Saturday morning Natalie Mori took first in Kids Stock Horse 5 years and under with Tyann Kern following in second. Cade Bell won first in Junior Stock Horse 6 -10 year olds. Isaac Mori taking second, Brett Ferraro with third and Jessica Smith in fourth. Trase Bell took first in the Junior Stock Horse 11-18 year olds. Quint Bell following his brother with second, Luke Logan then taking third and his brother Caleb Logan taking fourth. Good job on family competition guys. The Adult Stock Horse classes started with the Novice Bridle Class and Davey Kern took first place riding his horse Monkey. In the Open Snaffle & Hackamore Class Jake Logan took first riding Termite. Katie Kern finished second riding Lilly. The Open Bridle Class won by Woodie Bell riding Sky Nic. Trase Bell finished second riding Reno. The Co-Ed Branding was the last event held Saturday afternoon. One great family branding team came in and swept up first place consisting of Pete Marvel, Joe Marvel, Jake Logan and Luke Logan. Another great team took second with team members, Woodie Bell, Gonzales Carlos, Jake Logan and Luke Logan.
The Barnyard Scramble held this year on Saturday afternoon is a highly anticipated event by both kids and adults. Charlie and Liz Whiton organize this event every year by collecting and donating animals for the event. Their generosity and time is greatly appreciated for this big undertaking. Fun and laughter was enjoyed by all watching and participating in this event.
Sunday morning took off bright and early with the Kids events. Edgar Duarte took first in (P-K) Goat Tail Untying. Natalie Mori and Jacob Anderson split second and third. Tyann Kern following with fourth. Natalie Mori also won first in the Dummy Roping (P-K). Tyann Kern taking second, Edgar Duarte with third, and Jacob Anderson with fourth. Frankie Baumeister won first in Goat Tail Tying (first-fourth grade). Frankie also won her first belt buckle ever with this event and we are all happy for her, congratulations. Cade Bell won second, Gus Ferrero in third, and Bruce Doke with fourth. Jessica Smith took first in Dummy Roping (first- fourth grade). Isaac Mori winning second, his brother Wade Mori with third, and Cade Bell in fourth. Quint Bell won first in Dummy Roping(fifth through eighth grade). Trase Bell chasing his brother in second, Shuan Mentaberry in third, and Emilio Duarte with fourth. Wade Mori won first in Sheep Riding. Gus Ferrero taking second, Jessica Smith with third, and Carter Ryals in fourth. Caleb Logan and partner Trase Bell took first in Calf Tail Undecorating (fifth through eighth grade). Angela Anderson and partner Darrik Anderson taking second, Amilio Duarte and partner Quint Bell following with third. Luke Logan and his partner Dawson Cassinelli won first in (ninth through 12th) Calf Undecorating. Clayton Schumacher and partner Jake Logan taking second, Jace Ryals and partner Joe Andreason in third, and Ashley Buckingham with partner Shaun Mentaberry following in fourth. In the last of the kids events Trase Bell won first in Calf Riding. Quint Bell again chasing his brother winning second, Caleb Logan in third, and Emilio Duarte with fourth.
The Adult events took off Sunday afternoon starting with the Draw-pot Team Branding. John Bell, Jhona Bell, Cade Bell, and Matt Mori finished first. Leah Mori, Luke Baumeister, Pete Marvel, and Jake Logan taking second. Davey Kern, Katie Kern, Joe Marvel, and Luke Logan following in third. The Team Sorting event tied three ways this year. Team #1 Davey Kern, Katie Kern, and Pete Marvel, Team #2 John Bell, Jhona Bell and Quint Bell, Team #3 Matt Mori, Isaac Mori, and Jake Brennon, all split first, second, and third in no particular order. Jake Brennon took first in the Figure 8 Roping. John Bell with second, Leah Mori and Davey Kern split third and fourth. Luke Logan won first in Cow Riding with Matt Grisson taking second. John and Jhona Bell won first place in the Ribbon Roping, followed by Matt and Leah Mori for second, Davey and Katie Kern ended with third. Just goes to show you what a great job married couples can do. Finally our last event of the day was Team Roping with John Bella and Trase Bell winning first. Quint Bell and Jhona Bell taking close second, and Jake Logan and Quint Bell following in third.
This year's recipient of the Jim Angus All-Around Buckle was Luke Logan. Congratulations Luke, great job. The Les Stewart All-Around Memorial Buckles went to John and Jhona Bell. Congratulations and great job to them as well.
