PARADISE VALLEY - Aim the car for Paradise Valley and bring your appetite! The 63rd Annual Fireman's Barbecue is set for Sunday, June 16.
The afternoon's fun starts at 1 p.m., with door prizes, horseshoe pitching, a nail driving contest and kids races.
The Paradise Valley firemen started their barbecue in June 1950 as a fun thing for the community. It has continued for 63 years and has grown to serve people from around the world. They have served up to 1,500 people in one year, organizers said.
Although the menu has changed slightly over the years, it still consists of luscious barbecue beef cooked in a pit under the ground - just like in the old days. Beans, bread and salad round out the meal. Tickets are $15 per adult; $5 for kids 12 and under; preschoolers admitted free.
Advance tickets are available from any fireman or at the gate. The fun only lasts until 4 p.m., so get out to Paradise Valley for a great Father's Day lunch!
