WINNEMUCCA - District administrators visited Paradise Valley Elementary School on Nov. 19 to celebrate the school's five-star status rating for the 2012-13 school year.

The school improved its rating from the 2011-12 school year for which they received a three-star rating.

The celebration was complete with sugar cookies and gift bags for each student and parents were invited to attend the event which took place in the school's gym. Students and staff also received a plaque in recognition of their accomplishments and a vinyl sign to hang at the school.

Principal Robert Lindsey said he is proud of the school's efforts.

"Year after year they do remarkable things out there," he said.

Teacher Marty Echevarria said it was nice that the students were recognized for their hard work.

"We stick to business around here to it's nice when it pays off," she said. "I think I speak for everyone when I say we always do our best and try our hardest - staff and students."

The Nevada School Performance Framework star ratings are partially based on state assessments that were given to Nevada public school students in grades three through eight during the 2012-13 school year, according to the Nevada Department of Education. Schools are also measured on growth and college and career readiness.

Paradise Valley Elementary School was one of two schools in the district to receive a five-star rating, the other being Winnemucca Grammar School.
