RENO - Due to the federal government sequestration, few Saturday adoptions and a low public visitation rate on Saturdays, the Bureau of Land Management's Palomino Valley National Wild Horse and Burro Adoption Center will only be open on the first Saturday each month from 8 a.m.-noon, beginning next month on April 6.
Traditionally, the center has been open to the public every Saturday morning from 8 a.m. to noon. The center will continue to be open to the public Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The center, which is located about 20 miles north of Reno, is the largest BLM preparation and adoption facility in the country and serves as the primary preparation center for wild horses and burros gathered from the public lands in Nevada and other nearby western states.
Visitors wishing to adopt are encouraged to call the center prior to arrival at (775) 475-2222.
For more information about the facility, call (775) 475-2222 or visit www.blm.gov/nv.
