Owings added to All-Star Futures game

RENO - Reno Aces shortstop Chris Owings has been added to the U.S. roster for the 15th annual SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, to take place on Sunday, July 14 at Citi Field in New York, Major League Baseball announced today.

The 21-year-old has emerged as a star in his first season at the Triple-A level. He leads all of professional baseball in hits (130) and ranks second in the PCL in batting average (.353). Owings also ranks first in the PCL in runs scored (69), is tied for first in total bases (179) and ranked fifth in RBI (55).

Last month, Owings became the first batter in Aces franchise history to record 40 or more hits in three consecutive months. He entered the season ranked the D-backs No. 6 prospect by MLB.com and No. 7 by Baseball America.

Owings was selected by the D-backs in the supplemental first round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of Gilbert High School in South Carolina. Star Sunday. 

The game will begin at 11 a.m. on ESPN2.
