Gunfighting troupe desires desperados

OUTLAWS WANTED

OUTLAWS WANTED

The Nevada Gunfighters of the Old West are seeking to increase their membership, which currently consists of 15 - 18 men, women and children dedicated to the two-fold mission of promoting gun safety and the spirit of the Old West (circa 1860-1890's).

Based in Fernley, the nonprofit acting troupe has members from as far away as Carson City. It isn't necessary to own or handle a gun in order to participate. The guns used in performances are loaded with black powder blanks of the same type used in Hollywood shoot 'em ups. The group carries spectator liability insurance. The membership fee (available upon request) includes performance insurance.

The Gunfighters perform at fairs, carnivals and private shows throughout northern Nevada and California. Each show is preceded by a gun safety demonstration. Then the town of Rimfire, complete with its own bank, jail, mercantile, saloon, and church, springs to life with outlaws, lawmen, saloon girls, and town folk. The versatile acting troupe treats audiences to comedy, drama, and historical reenactments.

On Sunday, Nov. 16, the outlaws pushed the lawmen into action when they robbed a train in Virginia City. They were featured at a National Rifle Association (NRA) dinner at Piper's Opera House the previous evening.

Constructing their 70-foot set - which includes a sound system, power and light source - was a team effort completed in 2012. It adds color and authenticity to their performances.

The Gunfighter's efforts have won them several accolades including a 2010 Blue Ribbon at Reno's Nevada State Fair. True West Magazine named them the "Reenactment Group of the Year" in 2012. Even more rewarding are the smiles and gasps from their audiences.

Bob Gillot (aka "Pronto Pike") states that members are expected to show up for monthly rehearsals when they can but acknowledges that "family and work come first." Sponsors are also welcome. For more information you may contact him at (775) 835-8466 or visit nvgunfighters.com. See you in Rimfire, pardner.[[In-content Ad]]
