Opening a can of worms

Editor,

Barry, I thank you for your kind comments about the Humboldt County Search and Rescue Team and what the fine men and women volunteers are doing for Humboldt County. I am sure lives have been saved and many more will be saved in the years to come. Thank all of you for your hard work to make the Search and Rescue Team a reality.

Barry, you took the top off of a very large can of worms in doing so. As anyone can see the results of this past election showed the vast majority of the voters in Humboldt County were not satisfied with Sheriff Ed Kilgore's performance in regard to his job over the past eight years, especially his last four. If I may compare President Obama and Harry Reid to Sheriff Ed Kilgore, it is not the few good things he did while in office that he will be remembered for although they will be part of his legacy and go down in the annals of the history books.

Therefore, it is the many things he did or perhaps the many things he did not do while in office for those eight years he will mostly be remembered for. He lost many thousands of dollars in grant money for the county, continually ran over budget, and has shown his lack of supervisory skills to lead his department. But above all the shame he has brought on this county and its people with his Highway Interdiction Program; which has brought on many lawsuits, nationwide embarrassment through the national news outlets, and finally ending up in Federal Court. These things he will be remembered for in the future for a long time to come.
