WINNEMUCCA - Friends of Nevada Wilderness ("Friends") is a nonprofit organization dedicated to getting Nevadans connected to wild places, and improving the management and restoration of wildlands.
One of the ways they meet their mission is by "on the ground" stewardship. Friends will continue stewardship projects this 2013 field season in the Santa Rosa Ranger District in Paradise Valley.
Volunteers will join Friends, the U.S. Forest Service, and the Nevada Department of Wildlife on fire rehabilitation projects to restore land burned by the two recent wildfires. The final planting project in April will be held on Saturday, April 27. The project will help rehabilitate burned areas and restore habitat for pronghorn, mule deer and other wildlife. Funding comes from the Dream Tag's Charitable Fund at the Community Foundation of Western Nevada.
Friends is looking forward to working with local volunteers who enjoy recreating in the outdoors from Winnemucca, Battle Mountain, Lovelock, Reno and the surrounding areas.
