WINNEMUCCA - There was a report of a gas leak in the alley behind C.B. Brown on Dec. 12 at approximately 7:20 a.m.
Winnemucca Police Department officers responded to identify and secure the area. Officers did notice the bollards designed to protect the gas meter had been damaged but did not identify any physical damage to the meter.
Winnemucca Fire also responded to the area for safety. In addition, personnel from Southwest Gas arrived on scene to test for leaks and inspect the area. WPD officers and fire personnel released the scene to gas company personnel.
According to Cynthia Messina, spokesperson for Southwest Gas, a car hit the meter but there was no gas leakage. Personnel from the gas company replaced the meter.
Messina also reported that on Dec. 9 a homeowner digging on his property on West Thomas Canyon hit his gas line. Messina said that the homeowner failed to call ahead to Southwest Gas to have the line marked before digging. Southwest Gas repaired the gas line and the erring homeowner was the only residence affected.
