WINNEMUCCA - Humboldt General Hospital has opened a new chapter in local surgical care.
The office of the HGH Surgery Group is now open and available for surgical consults at 130 E. Haskell Street, Suite E.
The new office opening coincides with the closing of Dr. Soon Kim's surgery clinic. Her last day at Humboldt General Hospital was Friday, Aug. 24.
All patient records from Dr. Kim's practice have been transferred to the HGH Surgery Group; copies are available through the Humboldt General Hospital Medical Records office.
The HGH Surgery Group includes four seasoned surgeons-all members of the Rural Physicians Group, the same group that contracts with the hospital to provide hospitalist services.
The surgeons include Paul E. Gaulin, M.D., F.R.C.S.; Stanley D. Pense, M.D.; Thomas V. McCormick, M.D.; and Michael J. Murray, M.D. All are board certified in general surgery.
The four new physicians will provide surgical services in-house 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Physicians will rotate through Winnemucca every 10 days.
All surgical procedures will be performed in the HGH surgical suites.
The physicians will work closely with one another, even following up with each others' patients if needed, and will also work with the hospitalist physicians to provide continuity of care.
"We see this as a very progressive move for Humboldt General Hospital," said Jim Parrish, CEO/administrator.
"Not only are we expanding our services, but this relationship with Rural Physicians Group will give us around-the-clock access to some excellent surgeons who will serve our community well."
Dr. Sukh Pannu, who represents the Rural Physicians Group, said all four general surgeons come to Humboldt General Hospital with extensive experience.
"They are very experienced in serving similar-sized communities," said Dr. Pannu. "They understand the challenge of these communities."
Dr. Pannu said the surgeons will maintain a quality assurance program in patient care, including tracking return-to-surgery and infection rates.
"These doctors will be subject to the same peer review by HGH medical staff as any other physician," he said.
