Obituary: Guadalupe Flores Banuelos

Guadalupe Flores Banuelos passed away on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center at 12:30 p.m. due to unexpected heart complications.

She was born on Nov. 30, 1949, in Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. She was the sixth child of seven brothers and sisters. She had a natural caring manner and a loving heart, no one left her house without being properly fed and clothed. She is survived by her devoted husband Rosendo Banuelos, son Rosendo Guadalupe Banuelos, daughter Veronica Saavedra and grand-daughter Claudia Luna. Her brother and Sister Manuela Valtierra and Conrado Flores have been long-time residents of Lovelock, her youngest sister Concepcion Sambrano resides in Sparks, and her brother Jose Flores in La Puente, Calif.

Lupe as she was dearly known by friends and family resided in Lovelock from 1976 to 1998. She was an active participant at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church where she became one of the co-founders of the Club Guadalupano where she participated for four consecutive years. She arranged for a priest to be able to officiate the first Spanish mass at St. John the Baptist.

Lupe was a gentle soul since childhood, a fan of pastel colors and flowerful patterns always a busy body around the house, keeping an impeccable home and a warm kitchen. She made it a point to make a blanket for every new baby of family or friends, her knitting was visible at all parties with her salt-shaker covers. She was a woman of many talents her wedding gown was made with her own two hands.

A rosary and viewing will be held on Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, between the hours of 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Lovelock Funeral Home behind St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Funeral services will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Big Meadow Cemetery.
