Obituary: Florence Andrea McDougal

Florence McDougal, 78, of Sacramento, Calif., passed away on Dec. 31, 2010. She was born in San Francisco on April 19, 1932, to Thor and Ruth Kofod of Rio Vista, Calif. She attended schools in Rio Vista, and later received her AA degree from Sacramento City College.

On Dec. 5, 1954, Florence married Dick McDougal of Rio Vista. They had two sons, David and Robert. She was always busy being a Red Cross swimming instructor and a room mother for her sons’ school classes. After the family’s move to Lovelock in 1968, Florence helped with the farm harvest, and never failed to be available as someone’s best friend. Florence and Dick enjoyed numerous trips both within the United States and to many foreign countries, developing many enduring friendships along the way.

Florence is survived by the love of her life, Dick, and by her son Robert, both of Sacramento, Calif. She has requested that there be no formal service, but rather a gathering of friends to celebrate her life, in Rio Vista, Calif., on Feb. 12, 2011, and in Lovelock on Feb. 19. Florence never wanted to miss a party!

Remembrances may be made to the Nevada Agricultural Foundation, 2165 Green Vista Drive, suite 204, Sparks, Nevada, 89431.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,

I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am in a thousand winds that blow,

I am the softly falling snow.

I am the gentle showers of rain,

I am the fields of ripening grain,

I am the early morning hush,

I am in the ever graceful rush

Of beautiful birds in circling light,

I am in the starshine of the night.

I am in the flowers that bloom,

I am in the peaceful quiet room.

I am in the birds that sing,

I am in each lovely thing.

Do not stand at my grave and cry,

I am not there…I did not die.

Mary Frye

Florence was a wonderful human being and will be greatly missed.
