Obituary: Bill Dorman Walker

Bill Dorman Walker was born April 1, 1934, in O’Donnel, Texas. He was the 8th of 11 children born to John William Walker and Lulu Flora Frentress. Bill met Mary Sue Mason in Atmore, Ala., while she was working at a local hospital, and they were married June 7, 1954. Bill’s work took them to many places in several states, finally settling in Lovelock in 1959. Over the years they owned various businesses, including the Covered Wagon and the Desert Haven motels. Bill and Sue built 3 homes in Lovelock, and supported many local endeavors. Bill had many interests; first of all, a love of the outdoors which he passed on to his children. He loved to hunt and fish; he never missed a year to put in for his elk and deer tags. In 2005 he finally got his trophy California Bighorn sheep. He also loved to garden and was especially proud of his annual  bumper crop of tomatoes — no one could grow and eat home grown tomatoes like Bill. Being from Texas, he was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan whether they were winners or not; he always flew the Cowboys flag at home during football season. Another love was restoring old cars — he won trophies at many car shows and was in the process of restoring a 1955 Lincoln Capri that was his pride and joy. He took great pride in being a Master Mason in Humboldt Lodge #27 in Lovelock. Bill was bigger than life and he filled up the whole screen. Bill is survived by and will be greatly missed by his daughter Debbie and her partner Mary of Lovelock, his son John and John’s wife Michelle, and grandsons Matthew and Eric of Carson City. His beloved wife Sue predeceased him in August of 2009. He is also survived by 2 brothers, Earl of Lubbock, Texas, and John (his twin) of Casper, Wyo.; 3 sisters; Lassie of Lubbock, Texas, Hazel of Garland, Texas, and Marge of Midwest City, Okla. The family held private services.
