NV Energy working on repairs in Battle Mountain

BATTLE MOUNTAIN - NV Energy crews are attempting to determine what was causing electrical outages in northeast Battle Mountain during the past few weeks so permanent repairs can be completed, according to Greg Brorby, director of the company's northeast region.

There were no more outages reported as of Aug. 17.

The outages, ranging from a few minutes to a couple of hours, affected about 420 residential and commercial customers in the northeastern portion of the community, Brorby said.

Since the week of Aug. 13, crews have replaced several blown fuses on the 14,400-volt overhead line that serves that portion of Battle Mountain.

"NV Energy has spent many hours inspecting the line, but we have not yet found any problems that would cause the fuses to fail," Brorby said.

He noted that special heat-sensing diagnostic equipment and extra personnel have been assigned to help find the origin of the problem so that repairs can be made as quickly as possible.

The outages affected mostly residential customers but also retail businesses along Broad Street and some large electric customers, including Battle Mountain General Hospital, the U.S. Post Office, the Battle Mountain Senior Center and the school complex.

"We're sorry for the power interruptions, and we appreciate our customers' patience, but we want them to be aware that finding and correcting this problem affecting our electric service to the community is a priority for NV Energy," Brorby said.

Anyone with questions or concerns regarding the outages should contact NV Energy Staff Engineer John Krum in Elko at (775)753-1811.
