NV Energy's Powerful Partnerships Scholarship Program awarded $39,000 in college scholarships to 22 northern Nevada high school seniors and 14 students currently attending northern Nevada community colleges.
Since the start of the program 14 years ago, the NV Energy Charitable Foundation has awarded more than $700,000 in scholarships statewide. Awards are based on a combination of academic achievement, community service and other need.
Lowry High School's Nate Eldodt and Amaya Davis were two of the students to receive the award of a one-time $1,000 scholarship.
"Our company has a long history of giving back to the communities we serve, and education plays a central role in that effort," said NV Energy's Mary Simmons, vice president of business development and community strategy. "We're especially pleased by diversity of locations in northern Nevada represented by this year's scholarship recipients."
The one-time $1,000 scholarships, which can be used at any accredited university, college or trade school, were awarded to several northern Nevada high school seniors.
NV Energy will award additional scholarships this fall through the foundation's Dollars for Dingers partnership with the Reno Aces baseball team. NV Energy donates $100 to a scholarship fund for each home run hit by the Aces during the season. At the season's close, three students enrolled in renewable energy programs at the University of Nevada, Reno, and Truckee Meadows Community College receive Dollars for Dingers scholarships.
