School kids from northern Nevada learned hands on about agriculture and its importance when Nevada Outdoor School teamed up with Lazy P Farm this October. The second annual farm field trip took place Oct. 9, 16 and 17. Winnemucca Grammar School, Battle Mountain Elementary, Kings River, and Grass Valley Elementary all attended this field trip.
Participants rotated around a variety stations learning many different things related to agriculture. Students from Winnemucca Grammar, Kings River and Grass Valley Elementary all visited the same four stations. While at Lazy P Farm, those students took a walk through the pumpkin patch while learning about the life cycle of a pumpkin. They took a hay ride that brought them to a petting zoo where they got to interact with goats, sheep, pigs, etc. Students also traveled through a corn maze where they had to work in groups to navigate while learning about how people benefit from agriculture. Lastly, students learned about corn and how it supports a large portion of American society and how it is commonly used in everyday items. Students from Battle Mountain Elementary came for the second year in a row. They once again traveled through the corn maze learning about agriculture. However, at other stations they learned about bees and pollination and why it is important to have pollinators. They also learned about cows and even got to make their own butter!
Overall, the field trip provided kids with a positive outdoor environment to learn and taught them a lot about agriculture and how people can benefit from it. The beautiful weather and enthusiasm for learning and teaching from everyone involved made this year's farm field trip at the Lazy P Farm a great success![[In-content Ad]]
