WINNEMUCCA - Labor Day Weekend is just around the corner, and northeastern Nevada law enforcement will be "Joining Forces" and beefing up patrols around the state.
Participating agencies include the Nevada Highway Patrol, Winnemucca and West Wendover police departments, Elko, White Pine and Lander County sheriff's departments.
Labor Day weekend is the last holiday weekend of the summer. There will be more cars on the road and more law enforcement. The goal for law enforcement is zero fatalities.
Officials remind the public that if you consume alcohol, do not drive! The consequences? You will go to jail, car will be towed, license suspended, and you will pay fines (first offense DUI is at least $750 and you lose your driver's license for 90 days).
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), in 2011, more than 9,800 people died in alcohol-impaired driving crashes - one every 51 minutes.
The "Joining Forces" campaigns throughout the year are funded by the DPS-Office of Traffic Safety.
So remember, this holiday weekend, don't drink and drive. Get a designated driver, and always buckle up.[[In-content Ad]]
