BATTLE MOUNTAIN - The Sober Senior Class of 2012 received a great show of support from Newmont Mining Corp. in the form of a check for $10,000.
Each year the senior class from Battle Mountain High School agrees to provide year-round clean-up around Willow Pond, a popular local recreational area, in exchange for a monetary contribution from Newmont. Willow Pond is located on property owned by Newmont.
This is the fourth year that Newmont has teamed up with the high school students for the betterment of the community, according to Shar Peterson, senior external relations representative for Newmont. She went on to say how happy the company was with the clean-up work this particular group of students has achieved. Peterson commented that it was obvious that these kids were very committed to completing their part of the agreement, because the pond is looking better than ever.
Sober Senior Class of 2012 Vice President Brandy Bare said that on behalf of the students she wanted to express their gratitude to Newmont for contributing to the Sober Senior Class of 2012.
