IMLAY - Anne Bogadi, Newmont metallurgist with Business Excellence, visited Safe Haven Rescue Zoo on Feb. 21 to present a $5,000 check to assist with the funding toward material to construct a new 10,000 square foot enclosure and enjoy a tour of the facility.
In the last few months, Safe Haven has received calls for both big cat and black bear placements. States that no longer allow the reintroduction of black bears have turned to Safe Haven to assist with placements. However, the facility has no additional space available. This enclosure would enable Safe Haven to immediately respond to either big cat or black bear placement requests.
Newmont Mining Corp.'s past support has significantly contributed to Safe Haven's expansions and growth. In 2011, Newmont provided grant funding toward Safe Haven's solar power expansion project.
Due to the organization's rapid growth, their usage outgrew its current capacity.
Safe Haven Executive Director Lynda Sugasa said, "Newmont's partnering with Safe Haven for the expansion of our solar system furthers our ability to educate our area youth and visitors of other means of sustainable green initiatives combined with conservation issues pertaining to our rescues and wildlife."
Establishing a facility that is off the grid and completely independent has always been on the forefront of Safe Haven's goals. Safe Haven's solar power is in alignment with the organization's mission of supporting conservation efforts and protecting the environment.
Safe Haven's educational programs also provide a unique opportunity to view wildlife and endangered species.
Safe Haven's recent rescues include a surrendered privately owned pet Canadian Lynx, an African serval found wandering the streets of Hollywood, Calif., and a pet cougar housed in a Texas barn stall.
Safe Haven is already busy selling tables and tickets for their upcoming May 19 fundraising event at the Winnemucca Convention Center. This will be a great night of entertainment, an exciting live auction, a silent auction and a Safe Haven video presentation.
The event presentations provide updates on Safe Haven's recent rescues and other activities, facility development, educational presentations and school field trips and of course, always a fun video of their rescued residents.
The event is not only a great way to help support Safe Haven, but it is also an opportunity to network with business associates and further advertise your business. A special table will be available at the event for participants to provide information packets, business cards and other information for interested parties.
The event's live and silent auctions have a wide range of vacation packages, jewelry, resort stays, golf, a Reno Air Race package, Burning Man ticket, merchandise, gift certificates and much more. If you own a business and would like to contribute an item or certificate toward the auctions, please contact Safe Haven at (775) 538-7093 or e-mail: safehavenwildlife1@yahoo.com. All donations are tax-deductible.
Table sponsorships are $300 (seats eight) and include inclusion in all event media, special Safe Haven gifts and a special raffle drawing, dinner, entertainment and participation in the auctions. Individual tickets are $30 each and include dinner, entertainment and participation in the auctions.
To purchase a table sponsorship or tickets, please contact Safe Haven at: safehavenwildlife1@yahoo.com or by phone (775) 538-7093 or mail: P.O. Box 184, Imlay, NV 89418. With this extremely mild winter, Safe Haven has already had a jump start on their upcoming 2012 new enclosure construction. For those interested in volunteering, please call (775) 538-7093.
With spring around the corner, Safe Haven is already receiving calls for school field trips and visitation. Safe Haven hosted over 1,000 guests in 2011.
