BATTLE MOUNTAIN - New Deputy District Attorney Nicole Ting, who started Oct. 1, said she is enjoying her job, challenges and all. She is replacing James Barnes.
"I like that I get to do many different aspects of law because we do criminal and civil," she said. "Everyone I work with is amazing. It seems like a good fit."
Her job duties include assisting District Attorney Angie Elquist in criminal prosecutions, civil and juvenile matters and providing legal advice to the county commission and other board, departments and special districts.
The challenges to the job are learning the ropes, Ting said.
"I think it would be the normal challenges of beginning a new job," she said.
Ting said it felt great to be chosen for the position.
"I feel like it was a big honor," she said. "I have always wanted to work in a district attorney's office. It is feels amazing. It is very exciting."
She moved to Battle Mountain around Sept. 23 from Verdi where she grew up. She has family friends who live in Battle Mountain.
"I like it a lot," Ting said of Battle Mountain. "I like that it is a small town. Everyone is very friendly, very welcoming. There seems like a lot of outdoor activities which I like to do."
She is a 2002 graduate of McQueen High School and a 2007 graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno, where she earned her degree in biology.
She attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, William S. Boyd School of Law and graduated in 2010 going to work for three months as a law clerk for Judge Elissa Cadish in Las Vegas in the Eighth Judicial District Court.
Ting then served as an associate with the law firm of Springel and Fink LLP in Las Vegas where she stayed for a year before returning to Verdi and from there coming to Battle Mountain.
Her hobbies consist of fishing, snowboarding, reading historical fiction novels, hiking and target shooting.
She is the proud parent of a 9-year-old female Chihuahua named Gucci and a huge 7-year-old female Maine Coon cat named Capitol Puppy for her size.
