Nevadaworks funding available for Great Basin College programs

ELKO - Nevadaworks is provide funding to train five to eight low-income individuals for high-demand healthcare occupations at Great Basin College. Programs will be offered in Medical Transcription and Medical Coding & Billing. Both of these trainings are in fields with very good employment potential and with average annual incomes above $30,000.

The majority of coursework for each program will be offered online, and will require 30 or more hours of study each week. Some face-to-face classes and the program orientation will be held "live" on the Elko campus with attendance required. Assistance with childcare expenses may be available to those who qualify.

The need for trained workers in the healthcare field is growing in Nevada and the larger U.S., because of the growing and aging population. In addition to the Medical Transcribing and Medical Coding & Billing programs, Karen Kimber, GBC's Nevadaworks coordinator, reports that starting in January, Nevadaworks will provide funding to train Pharmacy Technicians and Medical Administrative Assistants. Students will finish coursework in one semester, and assistance with resumes and job-interviewing skills will also be offered. Anyone interested in the healthcare career trainings being provided by the Nevadaworks programs at Great Basin College should contact karenk@gwmail.gbcnv.edu or call (775) 753-2209.

Nevadaworks is an equal opportunity program. Auxiliary aids and services are available upon request to individuals with disabilities.[[In-content Ad]]
