Nevada's unemployment rate held steady in July at 7.7 percent, but is still 2.2 percentage points lower than last July. Las Vegas' unemployment rate edged up to 8.2 percent. However, the unemployment rates in both Carson City and Reno remained at their June levels. Carson City's July reading was 7.9 and 7.3 percent in Reno.
"I am pleased to see the overall economic picture for Nevada continues to remain positive," said Governor Brian Sandoval. "Our efforts to diversify the economy and further improve the skills of our workforce remain an important priority along with job growth in key sectors of our economy. We must remain vigilant in our economic development efforts as we continue the slow but steady pace to recovery."
Nevada is still trending 44,600 jobs higher than in July 2013, making this the 43rd month of continuous year over year job growth in Nevada, said Bill Anderson, chief economist for Nevada's Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.
July is the sixth consecutive month of year over year gains in excess of 40,000; an occurrence which hasn't happened since mid-2006.
"The same is true in all of Nevada's metropolitan statistical areas," Anderson said. "Las Vegas is up 3,000 jobs over the month, and up 25,700 over the year. Reno job growth was flat this month, but is still up 7,300 year over year. Carson
City experienced no monthly growth, but is up 100 compared to July 2013."
Construction payrolls expanded by 7,500 jobs relative to last year, a growth rate of 13.4 percent. Professional and business services added 12,000 jobs, leisure and hospitality employment grew by 10,600, both over the same period.[[In-content Ad]]
