Nevada treasurer in Winnemucca Monday, September 23 to promote college 'Kick Start' program

WINNEMUCCA - State Treasurer Kate Marshall will be in Winnemucca Monday to discuss the Nevada College Kick Start Program which aims to improve Nevada's college graduation rate.

The program is "an ambitious project with the lofty goal of increasing college participation among high school graduates," according to a press release from Marshall's office.

"As administrator of Nevada's 529 program and as chair of the Board of Trustees of the College Savings Plans of Nevada, it gives me great pride to see this new program jump off the planning table and into action," Marshall said.

"We will be traveling around the state over the next few months to showcase the program with parents and school officials. We have received tremendous support for the program from school superintendents across the state and look forward to a strong partnership in helping to build a more college-going culture in our youth," she said.

Marhsall's tour of northern Nevada rural elementary schools will not only promote the program, but also allow for parents questions.

Marshall will hold a session in Winnemucca on Monday at 3:15 p.m. at Sonoma Heights Elementary School. Winnemucca is Marshall's first stop on the northern Nevada tour and will be followed by stops in Battle Mountain, Elko, and Ely.
