CARSON CITY - Nevada's 30 year-old unemployment insurance system will soon be replaced with a new state-of-the art computer interface that will improve efficiency and integrity of the state's unemployment insurance benefit program, said Renee Olson, administrator for the Employment Security Division of the Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR).
The new system will be released in phases, with the claims portion targeted for release this month. The unemployment insurance tax system will be implemented by the end of this year and the unemployment insurance appeals system will be released by October.
"We are ecstatic about the implementation of the new system which is expected to make the delivery of unemployment insurance benefits much more efficient and will certainly improve the process for filing claims for the thousands who receive benefits, Olson said.
"The current system has been modified repeatedly throughout the years, and has become increasingly difficult to support. When unemployment claims surged in 2008, the system served Nevadans well; however, the new system will provide greater customer service to claimants, enhance claim accuracy, and detect, prevent, and reduce overpayments," she said.
The Claimant Self-Service (CSS) portal will allow claimants to view up-to-date information related to their individual claims. It will also give claimants access to their payment history and allow them instant, real time feedback on their unemployment claim. There are about 51,000 people who use the system.
