CARSON CITY - The Nevada Supreme Court launched its redesigned website on Oct. 29. The redesign streamlines existing features, making them easier to find and access, and adds other new features.
"Our new website places the most useful information at the forefront, requires fewer clicks to get visitors where they want to be, and allows one-click downloads of documents," said Chief Justice Kristina Pickering.
The case search feature, which is the gateway to our public portal, will continue to provide free access to documents filed in Supreme Court cases, except for the district court records included in the appendices.
The redesign prominently features the Court's oral argument calendar and case dispositions. Users can view live streaming of oral arguments as they occur, while audio links allow visitors to listen to already concluded arguments.
Other case information - such as the Court's Wednesday announcements of opinions scheduled for release the following day and synopses of cases scheduled for oral argument - are provided. Advance opinions and non-precedential dispositions are available on separate dedicated pages, as well as in the case docket sheets.
The redesigned website streamlines access to Supreme Court Rules and pending or adopted amendments to them. And a new feature lists the questions that the federal courts have certified to the Supreme Court for clarification of Nevada law.
Finally, the Court has developed and implemented mobile-friendly applications that afford android and IOS access to the website, along with the ability to share pages through social media.
"The Supreme Court is committed to making its proceedings as open and accessible as possible," said Chief Justice Pickering. "Technology has opened lines of communication between the Supreme Court and the public it serves that were unimaginable a decade ago."
The website redesign project includes a new domain: www.nvcourts.gov. The Supreme Court website can also be accessed at supreme.nvcourts.gov. The Settlement Program can be accessed at settlement.nvcourts.gov. The Find a Court tool can be found at findacourt.nvcourts.gov.
Visitors who see the old Supreme Court website after the Oct. 29 launch of the new site may need to clear their browser's cache. For iPhones, smartphones, and tablets, switch the device to Airplane mode to clear the cache.
Questions or comments about the Supreme Court website can be sent to the Supreme Court of Nevada IT Service Desk at ITServiceDesk@nvcourts.nv.gov. The information provided in response is limited to issues concerning the website.
The Supreme Court website redesign is phase-one of a larger redesign project that was begun a year ago. Phase two will be the redesign of the websites for the Administrative Office of the Courts, the Foreclosure Mediation Program, and the Law Library. Those redesign projects are set to begin in the second quarter of 2014.
