WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - With election polls closed and the vote tallied, Northern Nevada and California voters have elected Nevada State Parks as one of two beneficiaries to receive $25,000 from Raley's NickelAid campaign for 2012/13.
NickelAid was launched last August at Raley's and Food Source stores throughout Nevada.
This past May, a special Nevada State Parks Fund received a $25,000 check from Raley's which was used to purchase new picnic tables which will be installed at Sand Harbor State Park in six to eight weeks. With today's announcement, State Parks has the opportunity to receive another $25,000 to benefit and enhance Nevada parks and recreation areas.
The California State Parks Foundation was also selected by the customer vote to benefit from this year's NickelAid campaign. "I commend Raley's Family of Fine Stores for its vision and continued leadership in helping to bring the people of Nevada together to support our state parks," said Governor Brian Sandoval. "Our state is fortunate to have already benefitted from the NickelAid program and I encourage Nevadans to visit a Raley's in the coming months with their reusable grocery bags so we can reach this new $25,000 goal to further help our state parks and recreation areas."
Beginning July 20, every time a shopper used a reusable grocery bag - paper, plastic or canvas - at any Raley's and Food Source store in Nevada, the company will donate 5 cents per bag to a special Nevada State Parks fund dedicated to help the state's 24 parks and recreation areas. Raley's absorbs all administrative fees related to the effort so 100 percent of the proceeds go to Nevada State Parks.
"On behalf of Raley's, we are very excited to again partner with Governor Sandoval and the people of Nevada on the NickelAid campaign," said Jennifer Teel-Wolter, community relations manager for Raley's. She added, "We have already witnessed both the need for and the benefits of NickelAid to help the state meet the financial challenges facing Nevada's state parks and recreation areas. The response from our customers has been overwhelming to support Nevada's state parks."
The State of Nevada Division of State Parks looks forward to the continued partnership with Raley's and the financial support from NickelAid. "All of us at Nevada State Parks are grateful for the support we have been shown, both by Raley's and by those individuals who voted for our selection as the recipient," said Dave Morrow, administrator of the Nevada Division of State Parks. "The last generous donation we received from Raley's helped replace items, such as aging picnic tables, for the enjoyment of visitors to Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park's Sand Harbor unit, and the new funds we receive will also be put directly into amenities at a park or parks in our system."
