A strong contingent of Humboldt County athletes will be in Ely this weekend, as the Nevada State High School Rodeo Association Finals get under way at the White Pine County Fairgrounds.
The first performance of the first go around of the rodeo occurs Friday evening at 5 p.m. The second performance of the first go-around takes place at 9 a.m. Saturday.
The first performances of the second go around will take begin at 6 p.m. Saturday and the second performance starting at 8 a.m. Sunday.
The final performance of the rodeo will take place Sunday at 3 p.m., with awards to follow.
Going into the state finals, Humboldt County's Savannah Montero is seventh in the women's all-around standings. She is currently second in the goat tying standings, one point behind Las Vegas' Hayley Dalton Estes. The Lowry graduate is sixth in breakaway roping and 18th in pole bending.
Humboldt County's Luke Logan and Shaun Mentaberry are third and sixth, respectively in saddle bronc. Logan is also 11th in tie-down roping. Clay Stremler, who rides as an independent, has a 72-point lead in the saddle bronc event.
Jake Logan currently sits ninth in tie-down roping, and the Logan's are sixth in team roping, but have a chance to move into the top four for a shot at the national finals next month. Luke Logan is 11th in the boys all-around standings and Jake Logan is 12th.
Maclyn Crnkovich and Shaylee Robertson were 16th and 20th in barrel racing, Emalee Brown is currently 17th in breakaway roping and Dusty Robertson and Shaylee Robertson are 20th and 21st in breakaway roping.
The top four finishers in their respective events after the state finals, in the year-end standings, advance to the National High School Finals Rodeo July 13 - 19 at the Sweetwater Events Complex in Rock Springs, Wyo.
The athletes that place fifth through 15th in the season-ending points in their events advance to the Silver State International Rodeo to take place at the Winnemucca Events Complex June 29 - July 5.
