CARSON CITY - The Nevada State Board of Health elected Edwin (Flip) Homansky, M.D. as its new chairman during the June 2013 meeting. Dr. Homansky has been a member of the Board of Health since April 2, 2008. He replaces Roger Works, DVM, who has served since 2001.
"I enjoy being a member of the Board of Health and I look forward to working with the members of the board in my new role as chairman," said Dr. Homansky. "The board is dedicated to assuring residents and visitors that our state is safe and healthy, a commitment I take very seriously."
Outgoing chairman Roger Works was thanked for his long service by Richard Whitley, division administrator.
"I can't thank Dr. Works enough for his dedication in serving the people of Nevada," said Whitley. "He has seen the division through some challenging issues and was always diligent in his role as a member of the board and as the acting chairman."
The Board of Health consists of seven members:
• Two members who are doctors of medicine who have been licensed to practice in this state and have engaged in the practice of medicine in this state for not less than five years immediately prior to the appointments.
• One member who is a doctor of dental surgery who has been licensed to practice in this state and has engaged in the practice of dentistry in this state for not less than five years immediately prior to the appointment.
• One member who is a doctor of veterinary medicine who has been licensed to practice in this state and has engaged in the practice of veterinary medicine in this state for not less than five years immediately preceding the appointment.
• One member who is a registered nurse who has been licensed by this state and has engaged in nursing for at least five years immediately prior to the appointment.
• One member who is a general engineering contractor or general building contractor who is licensed by this state.
• One member who is a representative of the general public.
