LOVELOCK - The Nevada Office of Veterans Services (NOVS) will visit Lovelock on Sept. 5 as part of its effort to reach veterans in the rural areas of Nevada.
NOVS Veterans Service Officer, Tim Shepard will meet one on one with veterans and their families to educate them about benefits and services they may be eligible for but are not aware of. He will also help with existing benefit claims, NOVS Outreach Coordinator Pamela Roberts said.
"We are working on a schedule that will bring us out to rural areas more frequently. We plan to be out again in November and if there is enough veteran input we may come back earlier," Roberts said.
Shepard will be set up inside the Pershing County Community Center at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5. He is scheduled to be there until 2 p.m. but will stay as long as necessary to meet with the veterans that come in, Roberts said.
She said Shepard will take walk-in appointments that day, but it would be best to make an appointment to visit with Shepard by calling (775) 321-4880.
Veterans are advised to bring a copy of their DD-214 discharge document and/or current VA claim(s) correspondence. If the claim involves their dependents, veterans should bring marriage and/or birth certificates as well as social security numbers of their dependents.
The outreach program is funded by donations to the Veterans Gift Account that is supported by the Nevada Veterans License Plate Program.
NOVS is responsible for the administration of two State Veterans Memorial Cemeteries, a State Veterans Home, and a State-wide Veterans Service Officer program.
NOVS is instrumental in connecting Nevada's veterans and their families with benefits and assistance from both the State and Federal government.
