Nevada Connections Academy to hold information session

Nevada Connections Academy (NCA) is offering parents throughout Nevada the opportunity to learn more about this highly accountable, high-quality virtual public school during local information sessions. These information sessions also allow interested families to meet with NCA's certified teachers and parents with children currently enrolled in the school. NCA will be in Winnemucca on Tuesday, May 20 from 12 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the East Hall of the Winnemucca Convention Center.

Local information sessions offer parents the opportunity to learn about the skilled teachers and interactive curriculum offered through NCA's unique, comprehensive school program. Session participants will explore NCA's individualized learning approach, its well-respected curriculum, the technology-enhanced learning environment and the enrollment process. Curriculum samples also will be available and those attending will have the opportunity to get answers to any questions the may have.

During the session, participants will discuss the family's role in the education process through topics such as organizing the home for the most effective schooling environment and balancing time when more than one child is enrolled in the program. Participants also will learn how NCA's community coordinators arrange field trips and extracurricular activities for students and parents across the state as a means of education, fun and networking with others enrolled in the school.

NCA is a unique public charter school that combines the expertise and accountability of public education, the strong parental involvement of home schooling and the flexibility of technology-enhanced learning. Because it is a public school, there are no costs for tuition, fees or supplies. The school serves students in Kindergarten through 12th grades.

The school loans each family a computer, reimburses them for an Internet connection and provides all curriculum materials - several large boxes of textbooks per child, workbooks and hands-on materials - that make up the core of NCA's print-rich curriculum. NCA also supplies all of the necessary software and free technical support to ensure the computer is working properly. Each NCA student is also assigned a professional, Nevada-certified teacher to oversee learning and assess student progress.
