WINNEMUCCA - All Humboldt County residents are invited to take part in this area's first annual volunteer day of service.
The "Neighbor to Neighbor Volunteer Day of Service" will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 4. Participants will meet at Vesco City Park at 9 a.m. to receive their assignments. Following four hours of service, all participants will return to the park for lunch at 1 p.m.
The event, which is sponsored by the Winnemucca Futures team of the Humboldt Development Authority, is simply designed to bring the community together in a neighborly show of good will.
Winnemucca Futures organizers said participants will help area seniors and neighbors with home or yard cleanup, fix-up and repairs.
The group has been soliciting ideas for projects for several weeks, but it's not too late to propose a day project - especially for those in need. Call (775) 304-4139 to share your idea, or email the details and your contact information to HCServiceday@gmail.com.
Participating men, women and children are asked to bring gloves, rakes and shovels. Hats, sunglasses, sunscreen and plenty of drinking water should also be a consideration.
