WINNEMUCCA - Airport Road (State Route 796) is scheduled to be closed at the Union Pacific Railroad crossing southwest of Winnemucca Aug.20 to Aug. 23 to improve the crossing's road surface.
The work will temporarily close down Airport Road at the crossing, with detours available by traveling via Interstate 80 or Grass Valley Road.
The project, which was pushed back several days from its original start-up date, will replace deteriorating concrete panels and road base that make up the crossing's driving surface for a smoother and safer ride.
For traveler safety, the Nevada Department of Transportation will provide signs to notify motorists about the road closure. Motorists are asked to obey traffic controls and drive at posted construction speed limits, or slower as necessary for conditions.
