NCA looking for Teacher of the Year

ELKO - The Nevada Cattlemen's Association Research and Education Committee is searching for their twelfth "Teacher of the Year" who will receive a $1,000 school supply stipend from the Nevada Agriculture Foundation as they are recognized at the Annual Cattlemen's Convention Awards Banquet on Wednesday, Nov. 5, in Elko. Nominees may include teachers considered in previous years but who were not selected for the award.

Candidates should be educators dedicated to cleverly weaving classes and units about Nevada's ranching and agricultural heritage into their academic classes in elementary, junior high and high school as part of the academic curriculum (i.e. not vocational agriculture). Examples would be teaching a one-week social studies course on the importance of agriculture to Nevada; or integrating units using "agricultural math"; or classes about agricultural crop and livestock production as part of life science units; and so forth.

The deadline for submitting completed nomination forms will be 4 p.m., Oct. 20 either by postmark or in the Cattlemen's office.

Anyone may submit a nomination on the form, which is available at www.nevadacattlemen.org, or by sending an e-mail request to nca@nevadabeef.org, or by calling (775) 738-9214.
