AUSTIN - In 2007, Austin hosted the cast of Ms. Senior Nevada for a variety show at the Emma Nevada Town Hall. On Friday, July 12, the cast returns and high times in the old town will be on again!
A convoy of 40 - 42 people will arrive from Las Vegas, including staff and fans. The ladies aim to kick up their heels, sing their hearts out and tickle your funny bone with comedy.
A large trailer accompanies the convoy holding costumes embellished with feathers, sequins and all the paraphernalia of a classic vaudeville show. Twenty different acts will entertain the audience with all proceeds going directly to the Austin Senior Center.
Ms. Senior America, the umbrella organization, was founded by Dr. Al Mott in 1971 with the aim of highlighting older women and their achievements who have attained the "Age of Elegance." They seek to find the best example of the "dignity, maturity and inner beauty of all senior Americans."
Contestants for the Ms. Senior Nevada must be 60 years old and contestants from all over the state of Nevada compete in the yearly pageant in Las Vegas. The winner of Ms. Senior Nevada goes on with other state winners to compete in the Ms. Senior America pageant.
As winner of the Ms. Senior Nevada pageant, the queen each year appears around the state often riding in the Nevada Day Parade in Carson City, visits senior centers and nursing homes.
The variety show is the largest outreach to towns in Nevada entertaining audiences across the state. Every spring a contingent of state queens and city queens travels to the Nevada Legislature and governor's office to pay the organizations respects.
Austin and the Ms. Senior Nevada organization invite residents to join them July 12 at 5:30 p.m. in the Emma Nevada Town Hall. Admission is $5 per person and children are free. A reception will be held after the show at the Golden Club on Main Street. For more information, please contact the Austin Chamber of Commerce at (775) 964-2200. It will be a rollicking good time.
